Two Independence High School cross countiy runners made the trip to Wamego this past Saturday, October 29 for the KSHSAA Class 4A State Tournament. Lady Bulldogs junior Eva Thompson made her return to State this fall, improving upon her time and placement from a season ago as she crossed the finish line in 23:04 — good for 62nd overall.

How Can I Get Back Into my Grandkids' Lives?

Dear Annie: I am very sad and hurt because my son and his wife will not let me see my four grandkids. This all started after we got together on the Fourth of July. My son and daughter-in-law and their children came to my home to celebrate the holiday. They have four little kids, and we only live 45 minutes apart. I love my grandchildren, and if it were up to my son, they would visit more often and stay longer. But as it is, they had rarely visited me.

He quickly pledged medical and financial support to victims and their families, and vowed there would be thorough investigations and reviews of safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.

'Nado survive late El Dorado comeback attempt to advance to second round of playoffs

Field Kindley High School football did an excellent job of bouncing back from a tough defeat in double overtime to Ft. Scott at home in the final matchup of the regular season, outlasting El Dorado 40-30 in round one of the postseason last Friday, October 29. The Golden Tornado earned the six seed in the west, giving them the chance to host No. 11 seed El Dorado in the playoff opener.

Big 12 agrees to TV extension with ESPN and Fox secaring post-Texas, Oklahoma future

There is life after Texas and Oklahoma after all and a nice TV extension, too. Fifteen months after the Big 12's obituary was written with the defection of the Longhorns and Sooners to the SEC, the once-embattled conference is looking at a new deal with ESPN and Fox.

Season closes on IHS football in round 1 road playoff loss at Circle

After a crushing double overtime loss at home to El Dorado in the regular season finale, Independence High School football drew the No. 14 seed in the west and headed to Towanda to take on No. 3 seed Circle on Friday, October 28. Circle jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead that the Bulldogs were never able to recover from, falling by the final score of 60-20 to end the 2022 season.
