Ukraine steps up counteroffensive with big push in the south

up (TNS) Ukraine kicked off a long-awaited thrust in its counteroffensive with an armored assault on Russian fortifications in the south that may be part of a push to cut Moscow’s land link to its strongholds in occupied Crimea. The assault coincided with new Russian missile attacks against infrastructure in Ukraine’s Odesa region which killed one person and damaged a grain cargo.

One Neewollah, I was standing near Penn and Main after the Do-Dah Parade when a little girl appeared, stood squarely in front of me and gazed up adoringly. “I love you, Barbie!” I was a little taken aback, as no child ever looks up at me adoringly, but yes, I was rather spectacularly dressed as Barbie, from little pink socks to a sparkly pink skirt and shirt appliquéd with hearts and a long blond wig.

US growth accelerates to 2.4% on resilient consumers, companies

(TNS) US economic growth unexpectedly picked up steam in the second quarter thanks to resilience among consumers and businesses in the face of high interest rates. Gross domestic product rose at a 2.4% annualized rate after a 2% pace in the previous three months, the Commerce Department’s initial estimate showed Thursday.
