CANEY — A meeting was held June 18 to plan the Caney Corn Hole Tournament and released the first draft of a memo of the plan, contingent on approval by the Caney City Council.

Some points of interest from the planning meeting included: Josh Hockett agreed to be the event coordinator and LaForge Insurance will handle reservations; registration begins at noon Sept. 19 in downtown Caney and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. The week of Sept. 14 will be called Caney Community Pride week and plans are to celebrate what the City of Caney and it's community has done to improve the town.

It was noted the week of Sept. 7 advertisements of the event will be placed in the Montgomery County Chronicle and the Good News to accentuate the accomplishments and tournament information. Businesses will be encouraged to do something special for customers the week of Sept. 14 and citizens will be encouraged to perform random acts of kindness that week.

A proposal was presented during the meeting to have a "Shoot the U" the evening of Sept. 12 and maybe turtle races in the park Sept. 15, as well as something special Sept. 17. Church groups, 4-H clubs, Future Farmers of America and other not-for-profit community organizations are welcomed to set up booths to explain their organizations and offer give-aways. Music for the event will be provided by Two Guys & a PA and both downtown eateries will be ready to serve customers.

Portapotties and wash basins will be provided by Community National Bank & Trust and a Beer Garden will be available.

Stay tuned for more updates.
