Reports heard, agreements approved at Wilson County Commission

FREDONIA — Wilson County commissioners met June 17 in the Commission Room, with Commissioner Casey Lair calling the meeting to order and leading in the flag salute; Commissioner Andrew Miller gave the invocation. Commissioner Jerry Scott motioned to approve the agenda and minutes of the June 10 meeting as presented and Commissioner Miller seconded the motion, which carried.

Road and Bridge Supervisor Kary Tatum reported 1350 and Ness roads are now reopened and offered commissioners a report on mowing, ditching and asphalt patching around the county.

Offering a Health Department report was Administrator Destany Wheeler, who informed the Commission that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Pathways grant will be announced in July. She discussed ongoing lagoon complaint issues with commissioners and those will be turned over to the county attorney for enforcement action June 22. Wheeler announced she has been asked to serve on the Kansas Public Health Practice & Innovation Initiative Advisory Board and offered a COVID-19 update.

The Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging Executive Director Cindy Lane gave the Commission an overview of services provided by the agency and expanded services being offered due to COVID-19 funding. Lane submitted the SEKAAA FY2021 budget request in the amount of $7,095.

County Coordinator Kris Marple presented the Commission with a maintenance agreement renewal for a CAT motor grader and Commissioner Miller motioned to approve the agreement with Commissioner Scott seconding; the motion carried. Marple submitted a Kansas Department of Transportation supplemental agreement with CFS Engineers and a motion was made by Commissioner Miller to approve the agreement as presented in the amount of $7,194.25; the motion carried.

Marple presented commissioners with an amended CDBG-CV administration agreement with SEK Regional Planning Commission, which was approved. Marple concluded by submitting an appraisal services contract renewal with McCully & Associates and Commissioner Miller motioned to approve the renewal in the amount of $20,400; Commissioner Scott seconded the motion, which also carried.

The Commission approved payroll in the amount of $110,968.46 and warrants in the amount of $55,718.45.

The Wilson County Commission will meet again June 24 at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend.
