Gilliland

Joyce Anne Gilliland, 84, of Ladson, SC, passed away on March 26th, 2024. Joyce was born on September 19, 1939 to Omar Earl Jackson Jr. and Marjorie Elaine Winters in Baldwin City, KS. She graduated from Rosalia High School in 1957. Joyce Gilliland and Freddie Hugh Gilliland wed in 1956 and through the years had six children. Joyce and Freddie lived in many places throughout Freddie’s career in the Navy.

Joyce A. Gilliland was preceded in death by her husband, her mother, her father, one grandson and two brothers. She is survived by her six children, Debra Friend (Bob), Sherri Gilliland, Tamela Collins (Charlie), Virginia Whitty (Alan), David Gilliland (Debbie) and Franklin Gilliland (Dawn), one brother, Larry Jackson (Judy), 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in Independence on April 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Hope Cemetery. To leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

Independence High School seniors Hadley Hines and Wyatt Small attended the 41st Annual Governor's Scholars Award Program May 5, in Topeka. The recognition ceremony honors the top academic one percent of Kansas high school seniors. Scholars are selected from accredited public and private schools across the state of Kansas. 'These high school seniors have shown dedication in their studies and a commitment to learning. They've earned this honor, and I want to congratulate them on this achievement,' Governor Laura Kelly said at the ceremony. 'We also should recognize their families, teachers and mentors for helping these outstanding students achieve their academic goals.
