It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Judy Louise Ortiz, 78, On May 6th, 2024, in Independence, Kansas. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born July 16th, 1945, in Independence, Kansas to Charles and Christine Ramsey. She was a beloved sister, aunt, mom, grandma, and friend. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, grace, and unwavering love.

Throughout her life, Judy was known for being a Door Greeter at Walmart with her American Flag cane. That cane was often a conversation starter piece for anyone who loved to talk. Judy was also known for adoring her grandchildren, both near and far. While some of them resided afar, they remained close at heart, despite their differing passions for music, photography, and travels over phone calls. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she took pride in their individual interests and pursuits. She cherished every moment spent with them, sharing stories, laughter, and creating cherished memories that will live in their hearts forever. Her love for her grandchildren was immeasurable, and they will forever be grateful for having one of their biggest fans in the stands.

Judy is preceded in death by her loving parents, Charles and Christine Ramsey, husband Jesse Ortiz, and sister Andrea Zaple.

Judy is survived by siblings Charlene (Scott) Smith, Independence, KS, Jim (Anne) Ramsey, Elk City, KS, her children Michael (Lisa) Ortiz, Orland, CA, Michele (Marty) Sutton, Independence, KS , grandkids Shandi Ortiz, Walnut Creek, CA, Nick Ortiz Orland, CA, Johnna (Anthony) Whitfield Elk City, KS, Jordan (Jennifer) Sutton, El Dorado, KS, Casey (Alaina) Sutton, Independence, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
