Coffeyville wasted no time in picking up win number one under first-year Head Coach Deonta Wade as they toppled Augusta on the road on Friday, September 4 with a final of 34-21.

Following a scoreless opening stanza, Field Kindley struck first with a 10-yard rushing score from senior Ethan Camp — his first of three touchdowns on the night. The Golden Tornado tacked on two more scores to take a 21-0 lead into the locker room.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the third to give the visitors a 28-7 margin after three complete, then Coffeyville added an insurance score while Augusta got into the endzone twice in the fourth to put the final score at 34-21.

Senior quarterback Aaron Rutherford finished the contest 7-11 for 213 yards, two scores and zero interceptions through the air while adding 12 carries for 160 yards. Camp just edged out his quarterback on the ground, toting the ball 11 times for 166 yards and the three touchdowns. Camp also paced the ‘Nado defense with 11 tackles — eight of which were solo — and two tackles for loss. Senior speedster Darell Jones hauled in just two catches but turned them into 93 yards and a score, featuring a 76-yard catch and run on a screen pass from Rutherford. Fellow senior wideout Tariq Logan added three catches for 102 yards and a score in the winning effort.

FKHS (1-0) will return to the friendly confines of Veterans Memorial Stadium this Friday, September 11 for their home opener against Columbus.
