■ Also mull over countywide transportation The Independence City Commission met for their regular session meeting Thursday evening at City Hall. Mayor Tim Emert called the meeting to order and led those present in the flag salute.

On the morning of Thursday, May 9, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence at 501 South 8th Street in Independence, with a court order and writ of assistance to evict resident Daniel Brault. This order, signed by a Montgomery County judge, required Mr. Brault to vacate the property by a specified date.

Caney's Jessica Holeman began dabbling in the art world young — when she was five. Mostly self-taught until high school where she began to focus on honing her artistic side, she began competing both locally and state-wide in art contests, mostly in pen and ink, pencil and charcoal mediums. She was the recipient of the Kansas State Artist's Master's Medal several years running, with numerous Grand Champion, Reserve and People's Choice ribbons and plaques.

The Independence Board of Trustees met for their regular meeting Thursday, April 18. After the meeting was called to order, the agenda was approved, the mission statement and vision statements were read and the meeting began.
