Doris Irene Etzold (Carpenter) 96 of Independence, KS peacefully went home to be with her Lord on the morning of May 4, 2023. She lived in her beloved home of 75 years until her passing.

Doris was born in Independence, KS on July 26, 1926 to parents David Earl and Mildred Violet Carpenter.

Doris attended Independence High School. Doris was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in June 1944, she regularly attended until 1990. She was a member of the Dorcas Society. In the early 1990s, she began attending Crystalbrook Church until the time of her death.

Doris loved her family, family dinners, and a great love of flowers and gardening. She loved life!

Doris was married to Eugene V. (Gene) Etzold on August 25, 1943. He preceeded her in death on January 4, 1998.

Doris has two surviving children. Judith A. Steward of Independence, and William (Bill) Etzold also of Independence, KS. Five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

Doris has one surviving sister, one deceased brother, and one deceased sister.

The family has entrusted final arrangements with Potts Chapel. Visitation for Doris will be held Monday, May 8, 2023, at Potts Chapel with the family receiving visitors from 5 – 7 PM.

Funeral service will be held at Potts Chapel, Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM with burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
