Mabrey

Mary Ann Mabrey, 71, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022. Her cause of death was Biventricular Heart Failure following a scheduled open heart surgery. Mary was born on January 22, 1951 to LC Relford and Sarah Mae White.

Mary was a long-time fixture at the Junior High School and High School of Independence where she was known as Mrs. Mani. Mary Mani taught in Independence for about 40 years. Students and faculty will remember her red BMW which was acquired with winnings from the $100,000 Pyramid game show on television. She was also a contestant on The Dating Game on television. She graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1975 and later earned a Master's Degree. After retiring she served as the head of the Board for the Independence Public Library. She was in this position when that library was selected as the Best Small Town Library in The Nation.

Mary is survived by her husband Frank Edward Mabrey; daughter Nicole Sullivan of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter Jennifer Scroggs of Harrisburg, NC; step-daughter Andrea Scroggs of Elkhart, IN; and 5 grandchildren; brother Johnny Lee Relford of Independence, KS; sister Sarah Ann Webb of Independence, KS; brother Robert Lee White of Parsons, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Mohamad Hassan Mani.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 2PM at Independence Public Library. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg, NC.
