Coming down the final stretch of the year, the Independence High School girls’ swim team traveled to Osawatomie last Wednesday, May 1 for the next to last event of the regular season. The Lady Bulldogs competed well, earning the silver medal as a team and a plethora of top-five individual performances.

The Kansas City Royals are sticking with young reliever James McArthur. On Tuesday, McArthur earned a vote of confidence from his teammates after blowing his second consecutive save opportunity.

Fresh off a Southeast Kansas League Tournament Championship at home last Monday, Independence High School boys’ tennis made the trek west to Winfield for Regional on Friday, May 3. The Bulldogs finished first as a squad and had both singles players and both doubles teams place in the top four, punching their tickets to the KSHSAA Class 4A State Tournament in Topeka later this week.

The Kansas City Royals took the Texas Rangers to the limit this weekend at Kauffman Stadium. On Sunday, however, the Royals ran out of gas in a 3-2 loss in the series finale.
