Andrea Dawn McDiarmid, Independence, passed away on Friday, March 25th, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, March 31st, 2022, at Potts Chapel at 1:00pm. Visitation was Wednesday, March 30th at Potts Chapel, 1:00- 7:00pm, with family greeting friends 5:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cancer Center of Independence, AWOL, and Andrea’s Grandchildren’s Fund.

Family Interests Do Not Belong in Public Affairs

Powerful politicians have this bad habit of elevating members of their family -- or the family of friends -- to high office. Sometimes the chosen kin or friend’s kin has fine qualifications. But the sense that their inside track gives them advantages over others with equally fine qualifications leaves a bad taste. It’s also un-American.

Kansas Senate quickly endorses legislation banning ‘sanctuary cities’

Kansas senators Wednesday backed a measure prohibiting municipal governments from creating “sanctuary cities,” rejecting concerns about the speed the measure was moving through the Legislature. House Bill 2717 is a response to action taken by the Unified Government of Kansas City/Wyandotte County to authorize municipal identification cards for undocumented people.
