After 101 Years, Fallen IPD Officer Added to Kansas Memorial

The Independence Police Department (IPD) will attend the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony.

On Sunday, March 21, 1920; at about 11:30 p.m, Independence Police Officer C. A. McKinney was mortally wounded by gun fire at 119 East Main Street. After 101 years McKinney’s name has been added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC and the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial in Topeka.

On Friday, October 8, IPD members will attend the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony. The service will begin at noon inside the Capitol at the second floor Rotunda and end with a wreath laying at the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial located on the northeast corner of the Capitol grounds.
