Caney PD makes arrest

CANEY - A 34-year-old Caney man was arrested Saturday night following a traffic stop made by officers from the Caney Police Department at the intersection of 5th and Hooker streets.

Christopher Steffey was driving the vehicle involved in the traffic stop and used a false name, Michael Steefey. During the stop, officers observed drug paraphernalia in the car and proceeded to search the vehicle where they located suspected marijuana and methamphetamines.

Chief Kevin Kitterman said during a check of the drivers correct information, Steefey was found to be driving while his license was suspended. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections in Independence.

Caney police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call Sept. 7 around 4:3 1 p.m. in the 100 block of N. Main St. While officers were investigating the call, witnesses were interviewed, Kitterman said, who observed a male subject choking a female victim.

Shane Schmidt, 38, ofCaney, was arrested for domestic battery and transported to MG­ DOC where he was booked on charges of domestic battery.

Kitterman reminds citizens that all su spects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court oflaw.
