William Eugene Taylor, 84 of Independence, Kansas passed away at Medicalodges of Independence on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Bill was born in Anderson, South Carolina on October 9, 1939 to James and Azalea (Martin) Taylor. He graduated high school and Electronics Technical school in Toronto, Canada. On July 1, 1961 he was united in marriage to Karen Lynn Gilstrap. For 28 years, Bill worked as an electrical engineer at Standard Motors, formally ACC in Independence. During Bill’s free time he loved to work with his hands. Through the years he built three cars. He also was a master woodcrafter, building numerous toys and musical instruments, including xylophones and dulcimers. One of Bill’s greatest projects was his log home he built 34 years ago that him and his wife Karen still live in today.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Azalea Taylor; brother, Jim Taylor and sister, Frankie McNeely.

Bill’s memory will carry on with his wife, Karen; son, Kevin and wife Renee Taylor; daughter, Shari and husband Michael Howard and grandchildren, Kennedy Hull, Aaron Taylor and Ashley Ronning. Graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS on Friday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bill’s name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
