Stolen vehicle recovered

A 21-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday following a search for a stolen vehicle out of Independence. Montgomery County Sheriff Ron Wade said his deputies were advised of a possible stolen vehicle in the southeastern part of the county as the owner was following it when it was reported.

Coffeyville Historical Society receives CARES Act grant

COFFEYVILLE — According to a recent press release, “The Coffeyville Historical Society, which manages and maintains both the Dalton Defenders Museum and Historic Brown Mansion, is the recipient of a CARES (Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security) grant, administered through the Kansas Humanities Council.” According to humanitieskansas.org, “The Humanities Kansas CARES Act Relief grants support Kansas cultural organizations that provide humanities programming and are facing financial hardship due to the coronavirus. Grants are intended to be used for emergency general operating support and staff retention in the humanities and cultural nonprofit sector. The grant application period was May 13 - June 14, 2020.”

KDOT repairing concrete on U.S. 400 in Montgomery County

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) started a project to replace concrete slabs on U.S. Highway 400 in Montgomery County.Work began Thursday and is expected to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting.The project area is between the U.S. Highways 75/U.S. 400 junction and the Verdigris River Bridge. Temporary signals will direct onelane traffic through the work zone; expect brief delays.
