Caney artist to open solo exhibition in Bartlesville

Caney's Jessica Holeman began dabbling in the art world young — when she was five. Mostly self-taught until high school where she began to focus on honing her artistic side, she began competing both locally and state-wide in art contests, mostly in pen and ink, pencil and charcoal mediums. She was the recipient of the Kansas State Artist's Master's Medal several years running, with numerous Grand Champion, Reserve and People's Choice ribbons and plaques.

■ Ranch owners alleged commission violated KOMA to conceal development details An investigation by Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach revealed the Junction City Commission violated the Kansas Open Meetings Act by convening a closed-door meeting to discuss an economic development project that included a livestock slaughter facility on the outskirts of the city. Public opposition to the once-confidential project, which could have forced sale of farmland for construction of roads and a traffic exit from Interstate 70, appears to have derailed the meatpacking project that was to have been built by Foote Cattle Co.

Kansas prosecutors reviewing nearly 10,000 pages of documents in Marion newspaper raid

Kansas special prosecutors have received “a detailed synopsis” of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s ongoing review of last year’s police raid on the Marion County Record. The CBI since November has been investigating whether journalists, law enforcement officers or anyone else broke the law in the events surrounding the newsroom raid.
