Lady Bulldogs make a splash in Emporia with fifth place finish

Continuing a busy week consisting of three events in four days, Independence High School girls’ swim headed to the Emporia Invitational on Thursday, April 25. The Lady Bulldogs finished fifth overall and had a bevy of top-10 individual performances. Garden City grabbed the gold with 470.5 team points, followed by McPherson in second (454), Topeka-Seaman in third (388.5), host Emporia in fourth (300), IHS in fifth (279), Wichita-Classical in sixth (94), Coffeyville in seventh (92), Topeka West in eighth (77) and Topeka in ninth (63).

Bulldogs track and Held has big day at Columbus, then heads to Fredonia on one day of rest

Independence High School track and field participated in two meets in three days last week, traveling to Columbus on Tuesday, April 16 before heading to Fredonia two days later. At Columbus, the Lady Bulldogs placed second overall and the boys brought home the team bronze but were just two points behind Pittsburg for the silver. Then on Thursday in Fredonia, the boys finished in a tie for fifth with Iola, meanwhile the girls took 10th.

IHS girls’ swim secures second place at Ft Scott Invitational

In the first of three events this week, the Independence High School girls’ swim team travelled to the Pittsburg YMCA on Tuesday, April 23 for the Ft. Scott Invitational. The host Lady Tigers took the top spot with a whopping 551.5 total points, while IHS snagged the silver with 533 points. Next up was Coffeyville in third (260.5), followed by Labette County in fourth (121) and Parsons in fifth (24).

Palmer drives in winning run as Indy baseball beats Grizzlies on the road

After letting one slip away at home against Parsons on Monday, April 22, Independence High School baseball had little time to lament the loss as it turned around on Tuesday for a single matchup with Labette County in Altamont. The Bulldogs leapt out to an early 1-0 advantage before LCHS tied things up in the fifth. That led to a thrilling final stanza as junior catcher Brady Palmer drove in the winning run in the top half of the inning and then was part of a unique double play to end the game and seal the 2-1 victory.

Lady Bulldogs swim competes at CampusKC Turner and Marion

Independence High School girls’ swim hit the midpoint of the season recently, heading to Marion and coming away with seventh place in a tough 10-team field last Friday, April 19. That was following a fourth place finish as a squad at Kansas City-Turner on Tuesday, April 16 and a team bronze at Campus in Wichita the previous Thursday.
