IHS boys’ tennis earns Regional title at W nfield, qualifies all six for

Fresh off a Southeast Kansas League Tournament Championship at home last Monday, Independence High School boys’ tennis made the trek west to Winfield for Regional on Friday, May 3. The Bulldogs finished first as a squad and had both singles players and both doubles teams place in the top four, punching their tickets to the KSHSAA Class 4A State Tournament in Topeka later this week.

IHS boys' golfers get second at Winfield Invitational

Wrapping up a busy stretch of three tournaments in as many days, the Independence High School boys’ golf team headed west to Winfield on Thursday, May 2 and came home with another second place as a team after also securing the silver at Coffeyville on Tuesday. Class 6A Derby took the top spot with a low score of 313, while the Bulldogs came in second (341), just edging out McPherson in third (342).

Suspended games at Chanute ruled as win for IHS softball and loss for Bulldogs baseball

After both sides earned Game 1 victories at Chanute on Tuesday, April 30, play in Game 2 had to be suspended due to weather for both the Independence High School softball and baseball teams. KSHSAA officials decided to call the games as completed as each had gone five full innings prior to the stoppage. That was good news for the Lady Bulldogs in a 14-9 win, but the IHS boys were denied a chance to mount a comeback in a 3-2 defeat.
