After letting one slip away at home against Parsons on Monday, April 22, Independence High School baseball had little time to lament the loss as it turned around on Tuesday for a single matchup with Labette County in Altamont. The Bulldogs leapt out to an early 1-0 advantage before LCHS tied things up in the fifth. That led to a thrilling final stanza as junior catcher Brady Palmer drove in the winning run in the top half of the inning and then was part of a unique double play to end the game and seal the 2-1 victory.

Lady Bulldogs swim competes at CampusKC Turner and Marion

Independence High School girls’ swim hit the midpoint of the season recently, heading to Marion and coming away with seventh place in a tough 10-team field last Friday, April 19. That was following a fourth place finish as a squad at Kansas City-Turner on Tuesday, April 16 and a team bronze at Campus in Wichita the previous Thursday.

Lady Bulldogs blanked by Labette on the diamond in Altamont

Fresh off a come-from-behind home victory versus Parsons on Monday, the Independence High School softball team travelled to Altamont on Tuesday, April 23 to take on Labette County in a solo contest. In each of its losses this season, IHS struggled to get going offensively in the early going. That proved to be the case once again and the Lady Bulldogs failed to find their rhythm at the plate and were shut out in a 6-0 defeat.

IHS boys’ tennis finishes first at lola, then earns ninth at TOC in Wichita

Racing towards the postseason, the Independence High School boys’ tennis program competed at Iola last Thursday, April 18 and captured the crown as a team, then followed that up with a ninth place finish at the Tournament of Champions at Wichita Collegiate this past Saturday.

Bulldogs baseball gives up late rally to Parsons in home defeat

Independence High School baseball was back in the friendly confines of Emerson Field on Monday, April 22 to host Southeast Kansas League foe Parsons for a single game. IHS jumped out to an early lead but found itself trailing heading into the final couple of innings after the Vikings started to find an offensive rhythm. And although the Bulldogs were able to put the winning run on first base in the bottom of the seventh, a two-out fly ball to left field ended the game with the bases loaded as the home team fell by the final score of 5-3.

IHS softball pulls off comeback over Parsons on Senior Night

Fresh off a shutout road win over Baxter Springs last Friday, the Independence High School softball team returned home to play Parsons for Senior Night on Monday, April 22. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind early but stayed in the game before heading into the bottom of the sixth trailing by two. That’s when IHS truly came alive at the plate, batting around the order during a five-run rally to pull ahead by three and a 1-2-3 top of the seventh led to the 8-5 victory.
