Bulldogs baseball loses pair on the road to Ft Scott

Riding a six-game winning streak, the Independence High School baseball team had its hands full at home against Ft. Scott on Tuesday, April 16. The Tigers blasted the ball all over the field, combining for 25 hits — compared to nine hits for the home team — over the doubleheader to earn the sweep. The Bulldogs dropped Game 1 by the final of 125, then were run-ruled in the nightcap as the visitors earned the 18-1 victory through four innings.

IHS softball drops road doubleheader to SEK foe Lady Tigers

Fresh off a pair of road victories versus Neodesha on Monday, April 15, Independence High School softball welcomed Southeast Kansas League opponent Ft. Scott to town on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs put up a good effort in the opener but ultimately fell by the final score of 6-3. Then in Game 2, IHS scored a pair of runs early but the Lady Tigers shut them down the rest of the way to come away with the 11-2 win and the sweep.

Bulldogs tennis finishes fourth at McPherson; snags silver medals at both Parsons at Winfield

The wheel kept spinning for the Independence High School boys’ tennis team as the Bulldogs participated in three tournaments in as many days to close out the past week. At Winfield on Thursday, April 11, IHS finished in a tie for second place and came away with silver medals in each of the doubles divisions. Then in Parsons on Friday, the ‘Dogs were runners-up once again and brought home a pair of bronze medals. Wrapping up the weekend at McPherson, the locals finished fourth in a veiy competititve field but were just four team points out of first place.

How a looming Rashee Rice suspension will (and should) affect the Chiefs’ draft plans

The Chiefs and coach Andy Reid won’t say much publicly about wide receiver Rashee Rice and the eight charges he faces from his role in a car crash last month. That’s as expected, though a hint of condemnation is a relatively low bar to clear — the case is ongoing, sure, but Rice did admit to police he was driving one of the cars racing down a Dallas freeway that caused a multivehicle crash, his lawyer said.

Lady Bulldogs lose at home to Labette but bounce back for pair of wins at Neodesha

After kicking the spring off with seven straight victories, Independence High School softball dropped its third straight in a tough home loss to Labette County last Friday, April 12 by the final score of 4-2. IHS didn’t dwell on the losing streak long and bounced back nicely, however, earning a pair of road wins over Neodesha this past Monday. The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 2-0 shutout in the opener, then earned a 9-5 victory in Game 2.
